ESL Goals for 2012-2013
The goal of the ESL program is to help English Language Learners (ELLs) become successful students, meet state standards in education, and become proficient in the English language. Instruction emphasizes language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. To achieve proficiency in these domains, students practice vocabulary, grammar, writing mechanics, Before/During/After (BDA) reading strategies, and some phonics (for younger students).

We practice daily grammar using and journal writing prompts using www.dailygrammar.com and various websites and resources for journal prompts. We also read a weekly article from Reader's Digest READ magazine applying a new BDA (before, during, after) reading strategy every week. Practicing these strategies boost higher-order thinking skills, ready students for Keystone State Assessments, and foster oral communication between students.
